Course Description
This qualification allows for the attainment of general competencies and also specialisation in Custodial, Community or Youth Custodial streams.
The general qualification covers the competencies required by staff members with nonoperational roles, and staff whose work roles are not defined in specialist sector responsibilities.
The Community specialisation covers the competencies required by staff members who will be supervising offenders directly or indirectly in the community and within specified parameters of responsibility defined by work activities or by the complexity of assessment of offender’s needs and risks.
The Custodial specialisation covers the competencies required by staff members usually enrolled in an entry-level training program and required to demonstrate their capacity to assume custodial officer responsibilities. At the completion of this qualification, officers will be expected to assume full custodial duties.
The Youth Custodial specialisation covers the competencies required by staff members who will be supervising youth offenders in a custodial environment.

Course Overview
This qualification allows for the attainment of general competencies and also specialisation in dog handling, supervision and leadership, case management, community or emergency response streams. Candidates for this qualification will normally be employed in the supervision and management of offenders and detainees in the criminal justice system or within immigration detention centres, in Australian states and territories and/or offshore immigration detention centres. The general qualification covers the competencies allowing experienced staff to reflect advanced practice and greater team leadership roles.
The case management specialisation covers the competencies required by staff members responsible for case management of offenders in custodial or community settings. The community specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for supervising offenders directly or indirectly in the community and within specified parameters of responsibility defined by work activities, or by the complexity of assessment offender’s needs and risks. The dog handling specialisation covers the competencies required by staff responsible for the maintenance of canine health and welfare and the utilisation of canines for detection and security purposes.
There is no Licensing Requirement for this Qualification or Industry. There is however employment eligibility that would need to be reviewed for each jurisdiction.
